Software development as a service

Senior developers on your team, for as long as you need them

Get experienced engineers without the cost and wait of recruiting. They join your team, pick up your tools and start contributing quickly, and you can add or release people as the work changes.

Sound familiar?

When an extra engineer makes sense

Most clients call us when the work has grown faster than the team.

  • Your roadmap is full and hiring a senior developer is taking months.
  • Someone important is leaving, and nobody else really knows their part of the system.
  • You need data, cloud or security skills for a few months, not for ever.
  • Freelancers have come and gone, and the code shows it.
  • Your team is capable but stretched, and quality has started to slip.
  • There is a deadline your current team cannot meet on its own.
What our engineers do

Real contributors, not extra seats

Every engineer we place has years of production work behind them. They are comfortable picking up an unfamiliar codebase and making it better without breaking what already works.

  • Feature development

Building new features alongside your developers, from the first ticket to the release, following your standards and your definition of done.

  • Technical lead cover

A senior voice to review designs and code, make architecture calls and keep the team moving while you look for a permanent lead.

  • Data and cloud work

Pipelines, reporting, Databricks, Azure and AWS work that your team does not have the time or the background to take on right now.

  • Stabilising and cleaning up

Adding tests, fixing the fragile parts, paying down technical debt and writing the documentation that should have existed all along.

  • Security and quality

Automated testing, deployment pipelines and security reviews from engineers who hold ethical hacking certification and know where applications tend to leak.

  • Mentoring your team

Pairing with developers earlier in their careers so the skills stay with your company after our engineer moves on.

How it works

From first call to first commit

The setup is light on paperwork and heavy on getting the right person for the job.

  1. Discovery call

We learn about your product, your team and how you work, and what kind of engineer would make the biggest difference right now.

  2. A matched engineer

We suggest a specific person, share their background and let you talk to them before anything is agreed. No anonymous profiles.

  3. Settling in

The first two weeks are usually a chance for both sides to check the fit. If something is not right, we raise it early and change course.

  4. Monthly and flexible

Billing is monthly. Add engineers when work picks up and release them when it slows, on notice terms agreed at the start.

Comparing your options

How it compares with hiring or freelancers

Hiring is often the right answer in the long run. Plenty of clients use us to bridge the gap while they recruit, and we are glad to help interview candidates.

Comparison of Avientiq engineers, a permanent hire and freelancers
Criteria Avientiq engineers Hiring a permanent developer Freelance marketplaces
Time to start Usually weeks, depending on availability Often several months of recruiting Quick, but quality is hard to judge
Seniority Senior engineers only Depends on who you can attract Varies widely
Cost One monthly fee, no recruitment costs Salary, benefits, recruitment fees and equipment Hourly or per project, plus your time managing it
Flexibility Scale up or down with the workload Hard to change once someone is hired Flexible, but people move on without warning
Knowledge A studio behind the engineer, so work is documented and shared Leaves with the person Rarely written down

Ways of working

Our engineers follow your coding standards, branching model and definition of done. Where those do not exist yet, we bring ours: pull requests with peer review, automated tests in CI, written records of architecture decisions and Scrum or Kanban as it suits the team. Product ownership experience is backed by Professional Scrum Product Owner certification.

More on how we work across all projects is on our technology and standards page.

Questions

Common questions

Anything else? Email info@avientiq.com and one of our engineers will reply.

Is this the same as outsourcing?

Not quite. With outsourcing you hand over a project and wait for the result. With us, engineers work as part of your team, in your meetings and your tools, and you set the priorities each week.

What does it cost?

Engineers are billed at a monthly rate that depends on seniority and the skills you need. We put the rate in writing after the first call. There is no recruitment fee and nothing hidden in the small print.

How much notice do we need to give?

We agree the notice period in plain terms before anything starts, so you know exactly how quickly you can scale down. We keep it short, because flexibility is the whole point.

Who owns the work our engineers produce?

You do. Code, documents and designs belong to you, live in your repositories and are covered by an agreement that says so clearly.
